"Sipping from the CUP" is the new daily news column in The Daily Kick. Each day during Schwan's USA CUP, we'll be using this column to feature short news items, humorous things seen on the campus, and even some gossip! Read and enjoy.

The totals from Project Pink Day at Schwan’s USA CUP: 1029 goals and 144 shutouts. That works out to a total of $5,865 as a PUMA donation for breast cancer research.

The Rudbeckianska 19 girls team from Sweden was enjoying a pre-game breakfast at their hotel restaurant Sunday morning, when their meal was interrupted by a raccoon running loose in the restaurant.

Schwan’s has given away over 600 Fruchi this weekend and just over 11,000 pieces of Schwan’s ice cream. So if you leave this weekend without having ice cream, it’s YOUR fault!

The vElite boys’ championship game between La Roca and Minnesota Thunder Academy in the Stadium drew a big crowd. As the game went into overtime, and then into an eight-round penalty-kick shootout, the crowd grew. NSC operations staff members drove their carts to the sideline and paused to watch. Eventually, the parking zone grew to seven carts. Staff members with no previous allegiance to either team watched with tension. Tournament intern Kelli Goodrich, who grew up in Iowa City, got so into the game that she began pacing back and forth, as if she’d been a fan of each team for years. Then the game ended, and it was back to work.

KARE-11, the Twin Cities NBC affiliate was on campus covering Schwan’s USA CUP Sunday. Over the weekend, we’ve had coverage from three of the local television stations. The hot topic for local TV? Hot weather, of course!

Floro SK club, from Floro, Norway qualified all four of their teams for championship matches, and then went 4 for 4, as the club swept the older boys’ divisions – 15’s, 16’s, 17’s and 19’s. We’d have to go back into the USA CUP championship archives, but we’re pretty sure this is a first, that no single club has swept the older boys’ divisions in a single year. Floro will be playing in the Weeklong Tournament as well, so we’ll be watching them closely.

Three Minnesota teams won titles on Sunday, and interestingly, all came from the north metro of the Twin Cities. The Princeton Tigers captured the 12 girls title, North Star S.C. from the North Oaks, Shoreview area, won the 13 girls championship. And the Centennial Cougars from Circle Pines too the 14 girls crown.

In addition to the Norway four-sweep, international teams won from Canada (Caledon from Ontario in the 16 girls) and Japan (Tokiwagi Gauken H.S. from Japan.)
