Sipping from the CUP will provide a daily run-through some of the short news items at Schwan’s USA CUP, powered by Sport Ngin. Enjoy!

Last night’s Opening Ceremony live webcast had viewers from 16 countries during the broadcast! The list included the U.S., Japan, Panama, Oman, Germany, Mexico, Canada, Chile, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Iceland, Bolivia, Israel, Brazil, United Kingdom, and Egypt. Thanks to everyone who viewed last night!

We heard a nice story from our Japanese agent Seigo Masabuchi. During Tuesday’s Opening Ceremony the Japanese teams from Tokiwagi and Ibaraki left their player bags on the C fields, guarded, as they entered the stadium for the ceremonies. When they returned to pick up their bags after the ceremony, the National Sports Center’s operations staff was busily cleaning up a rather substantial amount of litter from the fields.

Rather than leaving to go home, the Japanese players pitched right in and helped the crew clear the fields.

“That was a very Japanese thing to do,” said Masabuchi, a Japanese citizen who lives in the Twin Cities. “It made me proud to be from Japan.”

The Schwan’s USA CUP Medallion Hunt is heating up. As with most medallion hunts of this type, the first few clues are pretty general, and just set the rules of the contest. And that was true for this year’s USA CUP hunt.

“We didn’t expect anyone to find the medallion in the first two days,” said USA CUP Media Director Barclay Kruse. “But we did get some feedback that some people have theories. We’re pretty sure some people will get close Thursday, and for sure on Friday.”

The prize to be first to find the medallion is an iPad, so it’s a quest worth taking. New and previous clues can be found at the USA CUP medallion hunt page.
